Friday 29th July saw the return to Woodham of the Men’s Senior Open Competition. Over 160 players took part in the event. Even the weather was kind, with early morning drizzle giving way to afternoon sunshine! The competition was a close run affair. Ken Marley & Dougie Brimm from Woodham posted a score 48 points early in the day to edge them ahead of two other Woodham pairings, Geoff Bowles & Sean Blythe (47pts) and Barry Watkin & Peter Hogan (46pts). Overall scoring was high with many pairs carding 40 points+. The old adage “it ain’t over till the fat lady sings” proved very true when Bill Proctor & Phil Prudhoe from Ramside, playing in the final 4 ball, scored 49 points to secure victory! D Smith from Whickham won the Nearest the Pin competition whilst J Gallaway from Bishop Auckland won the Longest Drive competition – his only straight drive of the day he remarked when presented with his prize! The Seniors Organising Committee are delighted about how the day went and were especially pleased by the number of positive comments the players made about the course, the catering and the day as a whole We look forward to welcoming people back in 2017.
