Good Morning Members/Golfers,

Following various complaints/comments and discussions regarding the sand in our bunkers I have the following comments to make:

- At various committee meetings that management has attended sand has been the main focus, we have proceeded with repairing and reinstating the bunkers - even filling those that were felt to be in little use (the 12th) under instruction of the committee..... since these works we have had very little positive comments, we have even had comments asking why we filled in bunkers on the 12th (as I stated above we were told they were rarely used and it would not be an issue to fill them).

- We have researched, discussed and monitored the sand levels in the re-filled bunkers and we are very happy that they are in keeping with industry standard. I am aware that we continually say that the sand will eventually "settle" (this can take anywhere between 12-18 months per bunker) and therefore your patience is appreciated.

- Wet weather is exactly what our bunkers need to help settle the sand and condense it along with golfers plodding around in them to compact the sand particles - so we actually really appreciate you losing your balls in the bunkers.

- In SOME bunkers the new sand is falling down from the side faces - this in some parts is due to the way in which the sand is being raked. In others the weather plays a large part. Comments regarding balls "getting lost" are more often than not falling into the sand that has slipped down from the faces. The overall depth of the sand in bunkers is not the issue and I therefore feel that no bunker sand needs to be removed. Management alongside the Greens team have made a conscious effort to measure the depth of sand in each bunker on numerous occasion's to ensure that there should be no issues.

- Bunker sand should be between 4-6 inches. Ours vary between 3-6inches. None go above the industry standard of 6inches (even with face sand falling into the base of the bunker).

I absolutely appreciate that losing a golf ball mid competition is very frustrating and although you might not see us out on our weekly golfcourse inspections we are keeping a close eye on our bunkers. I ask for your patience at this time - some improvements although lengthy are better than none, I hope you agree.

I will continue to research into this matter and see if I can find some sort of solution to help prevent an 18 month waiting list to recover golf balls....... (too soon?).

Any other concerns or issues - give me a shout, you all have my contact details in your welcome packs!

Sam x
